BBQ Beef Short Ribs

We were looking to clear our freezer out a bit this weekend and decided to cook up the beef short ribs we got with our 1/4 of beef we purchased. I have never cooked beef ribs but read that they were quite tough so it took a few hours to get them ready to BBQ. They turned out pretty damn good but I would also boil them for a bit before roasting them next time. Here is the recipe we used from
6 lb. beef chuck ribs, cut into 1 rib pieces
1 cup water
3/4 cup soy sauce
2/3 cup Sherry (we used red wine vinegar)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tbs. ground red pepper
1 Tbs. grated fresh ginger
2 tsp. Chinese 5 spice powder (I used Asian Seasoning)
Trim excess fat from ribs. In large roasting pan, arrange ribs in a single later. For marinade: In medium saucepan combine remaining ingredients. Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat; cool slightly. Pour marinade over ribs. Cover and marinate in refrigerator 1 hour, turning ribs once.
Cover roasting pan with foil. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

After coming out of the oven
Remove ribs from roasting pan and place directly on BBQ grid; reserve marinade. Continue cooking, in covered grill, 45-60 minutes longer or until ribs are tender, turning occasionally. Brush ribs again with reserved with 10 minutes left in cooking.
