Italian Spaghetti Sauce & Meatballs

 Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend... I had a really great weekend in the garden and some girlies and I went to the Lilac Festival on Sunday. What a beautiful weekend! So nice to see the sunshine after the rain. 
On Friday night I was craving spaghetti & meatballs and found this great recipe on allrecipes.com. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do! I have never seen a recipe with SO many reviews (1614) and such a high 
rating: 4.5/5! So easy too!!!! The meatballs were SO tender and flavorful.
INGREDIENTS
MEATBALLS
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 cup fresh bread crumbs
1 Tbs. dried parsley
1 Tbs. grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 egg, beaten
SAUCE
3/4 cup chopped onion
5 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup olive oil
2 (28 ounce) cans whole peeled tomatoes (I used diced tomatoes)
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. white sugar
1 bay leaf
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
3/4 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS
1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, parsley, Parmesan, 1/4 tsp. black pepper, garlic powder and beaten egg. Mix well and form into 12 balls. Store, covered, in refrigerator until needed.
2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, saute onion and garlic in olive oil until onion is translucent.
Stir in tomatoes, salt, sugar and bay leaf. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer 90 minutes.
Stir in tomato paste, basil, 1/2 tsp. pepper and meatballs and simmer 30 minutes more. Serve.
